Here you will find an abbreviated version of my “Copenhagen, Denmark” post outlining where to stay, what to do, what to see, and where to eat! For more details about our timeline, see my full post under the “Wanders” category.
Where to stay: Look no further, Urban House is your answer. Though it is technically a hostel, it has a hotel vibe. We enjoyed getting to know other travelers in the common spaces/bar and we even watched some of the world cup with travelers from all around the world (kinda fun if you ask me). It not only offers the options for private rooms with bathrooms, but also outdoor mini gardens to relax and bike rentals for the day. If you are looking for safe, trendy travel while on a slight budget, look no further.
What to do/see: Copenhagen is packed with places to go and things to see. We had a few priorities on our “must see” list including the Royal Palace/gardens Amalienborg, Tivoli Gardens, Christiania, the infamous Nyhaven, and food markets (as I am writing this, I’m reading that our favorite spot closed but it looks like there are others…sad!).
Few comments on Christiania: They are a self-governed area within Copenhagen and therefore they have their own established rules which you best understand before exploring. Most notably, this is NOT a place for your camera or someone WILL say something to you. Definitely have an open mind here as you will undoubtedly see some interesting things going on. I would say this is not a place to bring kids!
Where to eat: I should start out by saying that while my travel buddy leaves all directions to me when traveling, I leave all food choices to her (and therefore she gets all the credit):
Breakfast/brunch: Mad and Kaffe is a super cute spot to have breakfast tapas. We picked several of our favorites off the menu and it was great. Add in an iced vanilla coffee and you’ll be in heaven! Other than that we looked for artistic-looking coffee shops for quick bites as we tackled our daily agenda.
Lunch/Dinner: 1. Bob Bistro (or Bio Mio) is on a street lined with food options but is set apart because it is all organic! We settled in at a little spot on the patio where blankets were ready to keep us warm. 2. Dyrehavn was another smaller spot that we grabbed some great salads for dinner along with some delicious bread. Something about it made me feel like I was reliving the past with its decor but we enjoyed ourselves nonetheless.
